20. My Boyfriend Doesn't Like Us Being Friends (feat. Tatenda Munzara)

What would you do if your friend told you that you guys couldn't be friends anymore because their partner didn't like you?

Well this is a situation that our guest, Tatenda Munzara has encountered various times and has an answer for. On top of discussing friends' mad partners, we talk about the importance of communication in all types of relationships, friendship amongst men, dating (eek!) and ask whether "love" is the problem.

As we mention in the episode, this was not the intended plan for the episode and I can only describe it as a great example of my friendship with Tatenda. This is how musical, chaotic, loud and honest we are with each other. From that standpoint, I'm happy to share the episode with you all because that is my goal with the Mis/educate podcast: to have "open and honest conversations". To have real conversations. To allow listeners to feel as if they are in the room and apart of the conversation.

However, from an editing and hosting perspective, I cannot ignore the vulnerability. In the safety, spontaneity and comfort of friendship, conversation flows easy. Episodes in which there usually is a interviewer and interviewee dynamic quickly melts and enmeshes into beautiful chaotic conversation.

For me - as host - it was hard to fully let go. I did not expect to tell you as listeners of my podcast (where I talk a lot) about my lack of communication. Nor how I feel I let down a lot of people in my life because of it.

But for me - as friend - I appreciated the gentle probing from Tatenda which allowed me to acknowledge my own flaws. Flaws that I am still fearful of but happy to work on.
